Elementor Not Loading: 7 Fixes That Work

October 17, 2026 · 5 min read

"Elementor not loading" usually means the editor gets stuck on the loading screen, shows a grey or white page, or never finishes opening.

The cause is almost always one of three things: not enough server memory, a conflict with another plugin, or a server setting blocking the editor.

7 Fixes, in Order

  • Raise your PHP memory limit. Add define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M'); to wp-config.php, or ask your host to raise it. Check the current value under Elementor, System Info.
  • Turn on Switch Editor Loader Method under Elementor, Settings, Advanced. Elementor says this helps on servers with limited resources.
  • Turn on Safe Mode from the loading screen. If the editor opens, a plugin or theme is causing the conflict.
  • Find the conflict by deactivating plugins one at a time, starting with caching, security, and optimization plugins.
  • Check that the WordPress Address and Site Address under Settings, General match exactly, including https and www.
  • If you use Cloudflare, switch off Rocket Loader, which can stop the editor's scripts.
  • Ask your host to check firewall rules such as ModSecurity, and an X-Frame-Options header set to DENY, which can block the editor's preview.

How to See the Real Error

Right-click the stuck editor, choose Inspect, and open the Console tab. Red errors usually name the plugin or file causing the problem.

Stop It Coming Back

  • Update Elementor and Elementor Pro together.
  • Test updates on a staging copy before the live site.
  • Keep PHP up to date with your host.
  • Avoid stacking several optimization plugins that all minify and delay scripts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Elementor stopped loading after an update. What now? Clear every cache, including your caching plugin, host, and Cloudflare, then try Safe Mode.

Does Safe Mode change my site? No. It only affects the editor while you troubleshoot. Visitors see the normal site.

What memory limit does Elementor need? Elementor's guides suggest 256M or more for a smooth editor.

Is it my theme? Sometimes. Safe Mode loads a basic theme, so if the editor opens in Safe Mode, test with your theme switched off next.
